Spec spots, short for speculative commercials, are advertising films produced by creatives or production companies on their own initiative and without a direct commission from a client.
At TEGNA’s Hatch team, we were to design spec spots for various initiatives around the holidays and specific verticals. I designed each scene, and Nel animated/edited them. During this time, I learned how to set up a file for animation in After Effects and began training in After Effects. I learned how to set up a file by rigging it and prepping it for the motion artist.
